Modern Slavery Statement
Last updated: January 2026
This statement sets out the steps Halo Project Charity takes to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in its own activities and in its supply chains. It is published voluntarily; our annual turnover falls below the threshold at which section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 requires a statement.
Our position
Halo Project Charity has zero tolerance of modern slavery in any form, including forced labour, debt bondage, servitude and human trafficking. This is not an abstract commitment for us: our frontline work supports victims and survivors of forced marriage, so-called honour-based abuse and other hidden harms, and we see how coercion and exploitation operate in practice.
Our organisation
We are a specialist charity based in Middlesbrough, working nationally with victims and survivors, and with police, health, education and local authority partners. Student Halo Hubs is our student-led awareness and prevention programme, delivered with colleges and universities across the United Kingdom.
Our supply chains
Our supply chains are short. They consist principally of training and office premises, professional and IT services, printers and garment suppliers for Hub merchandise, and couriers.
The area of highest inherent risk is garment manufacture. We buy our merchandise through UK suppliers and ask them to confirm the origin of their garments and their own labour standards before we place an order.
Due diligence and risk
Our approach is proportionate to our size and to where risk actually sits.
- We assess new suppliers for modern slavery risk before appointment, giving particular attention to garments and other manufactured goods.
- We expect suppliers to comply with the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and to allow us to raise concerns about their own supply chains.
- We check the right to work of everyone we employ and pay all staff at or above the real Living Wage.
- We reserve the right to end a supplier relationship where a credible concern is not addressed.
Training and awareness
All staff and volunteers receive safeguarding training that covers coercive control, exploitation, trafficking indicators and how to raise a concern. Student Halo Hub members receive accredited training on hidden harms, including how exploitation can present on campus and how to signpost someone safely to specialist support.
Raising a concern
Anyone who suspects modern slavery in our activities or supply chains should contact us on 01642 683 045 or at info@haloproject.org.uk. Concerns can be raised confidentially and are handled under our safeguarding and whistleblowing procedures.
The Modern Slavery Helpline is available on 08000 121 700, and if someone is in immediate danger you should call 999.
Approval
This statement covers the financial year ending 28 February 2026. It was approved by the Board of Trustees of Halo Project Charity and is reviewed annually.
